The Japanese government issued a formal statement of requests to the government of the United States on regulatory reform and market competition policy on October 18, and included a request for the United States to help stop the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of Japanese animation online. Specifically, the formal statement mentions the spread of Japanese animation and other materials on video-sharing sites and peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.

Has any of you heard of this? What do you guys think? When I read this, I honestly don’t know how to react. I’m actually in the middle of it. Well, yeah, sharing copyrighted materials is wrong, I mean, I think that it is just right to respect the company’s decision (they have all the rights in the first place! and we should actually be grateful for them for producing such good animes)..but still, as an anime fan, I don’t know how would I be able to watch and be introduced to new animes without people sharing it, right? I don’t know..so, what do you guys think?
Anyway, we’re NOT Anime-Avenue, we ARE Manga-Avenue actually so it’s a bit off-topic. I just want to know your reactions about this. Again, if anyone out there would be willing to help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
And as usual, just comment if you have problems downloading anything, and AGAIN, please give your thanks to the scanlators!

Does this include unlicensed series in the US, though? I’m not saying that it’s legal to distribute it… but it’ll be such a shame to not be able to watch anime that hasn’t (or never will be) licensed in the US yet…

I don’t know about the unlicensed series, but it might be included.. I don’t know.. and yeah, I’ll feel sad if I can’t be able to watch anime, but I guess we just have to respect their decision when it happens.
